Not so fun facts!

  • In 26 years, the WSIB has not had a single injured worker sit on its Board of Directors.

  • When the information was last available, only two of the ten Directors were from labour backgrounds. Those two were both from construction trades organizations that had endorsed the political party of the current government in elections. There are no representatives among the Directors responsible for or with experience of the manufacturing sector, health care sector, or any other segment of the economy other than business and finance.

  • In 2024, seventy percent (70%) of Board decisions were found to be wrong in whole or in part when appealed.

  • From 2004 to 2017 the rate of high severity work injuries increased slightly. From 2010 to 2017 the amount of benefits paid to injured worker declined by over half and WSIB assets more than doubled.

  • In the past 3 years, the government has directed the WSIB to rebate $3.5 billion to employers.

  • In 2017 a study found that 37% of injured workers lived in or near the poverty level. 9% suffered from deep poverty.

  • In 2023, the Board was formally requested to report on the number of injured workers at risk of suicide. There is still no answer.
